Embracing Identities: Stories and Strategies for Global Learning 2023

 Join students and educators across the country celebrating International Education Week. The Queen's University International Centre (QUIC) and Student Academic Success Services (SASS) are proud to host a conference that seeks to empower our campus community to explore the impact of international education.

Through interactive presentations, panels, and social media posts, we will celebrate the global experiences of students and educators, and share and learn from each other’s stories and strategies. Mark this exciting event on your calendar: November 17-18, 2022.

Land Acknowledgement

Queen’s is situated on traditional Anishinaabe (Ah- nish-in-ah-bay) and Haudenosaunee (Ho-den-o-show-nee) territory. It is an honour and a humble realization that we are able to live, learn and play on these lands as newcomers. I understand that these territories are also included in the Dish With One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant; the agreement intended for peaceful and reciprocal cohabitation with the resources of the Great Lakes. As an international student, I receive from this covenant the knowledge of how we are linked to our land and the assemblage of life lead in reciprocity. As newcomers to these lands, we are made to feel welcome, and must thereby engage in understanding the gift that is being offered to us. Our presence in these lands is contingent upon the shared understanding that while we live, learn and play on these lands, we do not run the Dish empty. We are grateful for the relationship offered to us through the sharing of tradition, space and life.

Sabrina Masud is an international PhD candidate at the Department of English specializing in Environmental Humanities and Ecocriticism, and she is the International Commissioner with the Society of Graduate and Professional Students. Sabrina is also a graduate inclusivity fellow at Queen’s.
